Hua Hin is a seaside resort on the Gulf of Thailand in the Prachuap Khiri Khan province of southern Thailand. Once a quiet fishing village, it became a fashionable destination for Bangkok residents after the 1920s, when the Thai royal family built summer palaces here. Popular for kitesurfing and other water sports, Hua Hin Beach is the city's main stretch of sand. It is lined with upscale hotels and small seafood restaurants.
The northern part of the city is mostly made up of luxury hotels, without much activity, for those who like a quiet atmosphere.
The city centre near the clock tower is very lively, with a wide range of accommodation.
The south, Khao Takiab, is a quieter, more authentic area, with a pleasant beach, some activities to enjoy and good value accommodation.
